Saint Carlo Acutis

The Apostle of the Eucharist & Patron of Connected Youth

"Not me, but God; not self-love, but the glory of God."

Biographical Narrative

Act I • 1991–2000

A Luminous Childhood & The Extraordinary in the Ordinary

Carlo Acutis was born in London on May 3, 1991, to Andrea Acutis and Antonia Salzano, and was baptized at Our Lady of Dolours church. In September 1991, the family returned to Milan. From his earliest years at the Marcelline Sisters' elementary school, Carlo was admired as a joyful, social, and profoundly generous boy who defended bullied classmates and embraced every person with natural warmth.

As his parish priest Fr. Gianfranco Poma testified: 'He was an absolutely normal boy, but with an absolutely special harmony.' Carlo lived with contagious enthusiasm, loved cartoons, collected Pokémon, and possessed a deeply rooted Franciscan affection for nature and animals.

Act II • 2001–2005

The Digital Apostle & Master of Self-Discipline

Endowed with extraordinary intellectual brilliance, Carlo was considered a computer genius by university engineers by age 10. He coded algorithms in C++ and Java, edited films, designed magazines, and created websites for his parish (Santa Maria Segreta), the Jesuit Leo XIII Institute, and the Pontifical Academy Cultorum Martyrum.

Instead of being enslaved by technology, Carlo lived the rule of rigorous self-discipline: 1 hour of videogame per week. He adopted Steve Jobs' motto: 'It is only by saying no that you can concentrate on what is truly important', transposing it to the spiritual realm: rejecting the illusions of narcissism and vanity to put God in the center.

Act III • The Eucharistic Heart

Eucharistic Mysticism & The St. John Model

On June 16, 1998, at age 7, Carlo received his First Communion at the Perego Hermit Monastery in Bernaga with special authorization from Bishop Mons. Pasquale Macchi. From that blessed day, daily Mass and adoration before the Tabernacle became his 'highway to Heaven'.

Carlo's spiritual icon was Saint John the Apostle resting his head on Jesus' chest at the Last Supper: 'All human beings are called to become intimate beloved disciples like John; it is enough to become Eucharistic souls, allowing God to perform wonders in us.' This intense love blossomed into hidden charity: spending his allowance on sleeping bags for Milan's homeless and supporting the Capuchin soup kitchen.

Act IV • 2006 & Eternity

Eternal Easter & The Global Legacy

In early October 2006, Carlo was struck by acute myeloid leukemia (M3). With celestial serenity at San Gerardo Hospital in Monza, he told his mother with a peaceful smile: 'I offer all the sufferings I will have to endure to the Lord, for the Pope and the Church, so as not to go to Purgatory and go straight to Heaven.'

His heart ceased beating on October 12, 2006. Today, his venerated body rests in the Sanctuary of the Spoliation in Assisi. The International Exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles he tirelessly built for 2.5 years has now toured thousands of parishes across all 5 continents, awakening millions of souls to Christ.
